Injectable Neurotoxins (Botox® & Dysport®)
Live life without the pesky lines and wrinkles. Botox and Dysport can help to minimize the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles so you can continue to smile and laugh through life without the concern of unwanted signs of aging.
What are injectable neurotoxins?
Injectable neurotoxins are non-surgical treatments that help to treat the appearance of existing dynamic lines and wrinkles, while also helping to prevent against the formation of new ones. Dynamic lines and wrinkles are the signs of aging that form as the result of repeated facial expressions – such as smiling, frowning, laughing, and squinting. You may know them better as frown lines, crow’s feet, or forehead lines.
Two of the most popular injectable neurotoxin treatments are Botox and Dysport. These injectables work by administering a small amount of a safe and purified toxin (botulinumtoxinA) into the underlying facial muscles responsible for making these expressions. This helps to relax the muscle, to minimize or decrease muscle contractions while smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox and Dysport are different from other injectable treatments such as fillers, which replenish volume to treat folds and irregularities rather than targeting the underlying muscles. Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini may recommend a combination of these two types of treatments to target a variety of age-related concerns.
What benefits can be expected with these injectables?
Botox and Dysport are hugely effective for the treatment of dynamic lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. They can help to minimize the appearance of:
- Crow’s feet that form at the outer corners of the eyes
- Vertical frown lines (also known as glabellar lines or “11s”) between the brows
- Horizontal forehead lines above the brows
- Neck bands
- Gummy Smile
Botox can also be used for medical purposes, such as the treatment of:
- Chronic migraine
- Excessive underarm sweating
- Muscle spasms
Am I a good candidate for an injectable treatment?
Botox and Dysport are great treatment options for women and men wanting to slow the effects of aging and maintain a long-lasting youthfulness. If you are concerned about other signs of aging caused by a loss of volume (such as nasolabial folds or thin lips), you may instead consider an injectable filler treatment such as Juvéderm®️. While Botox and Dysport are great for maintaining a youthful appearance, more significant signs of aging may require cosmetic facial surgery.
Personalizing your injectable treatment: Botox or Dysport?
When it comes to your injectable neurotoxin treatment, Dr. Karlinsky-Bellini offers both Botox and Dysport. The right choice for you will depend on your unique goals and concerns, as well as personal preference.
Both Botox and Dysport are formulated using purified botulinum toxin. Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is one of the most popular and well-known cosmetic treatments in the world because it was the first product to be approved by FDA to be used for cosmetic purposes in the 1980s.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) has also been approved by FDA to be used for cosmetic purposes and has been around for over a decade. Some patients may have a preference for their neurotoxin because they feel that the results are better with one vs. the other. Both products are excellent and can be used interchangeably.
